Self Diagnostic Guidelines

Roofing:

Dark or black stains as large streaks. Not to worry . . . as least not right now. The mold and moss you see are removing the grit or stone on your shingles that will allow leaks to occur.

Curled or Buckled Shingles. As your shingles begin to age and dry out they will buckle, no longer giving you protection from water damage. Now is the time to call ADS for an evaluation before things get worse.

Broken Shingles. Same as with curled or buckled shingles but the damage has already begun.

Leaks and stains in the attic. Water can enter the attic and cause stains or wetness on the rafters, plywood sheeting or even on the floor. Water never travels in a straight line so the damage is probably not where you think it is. Definitely time call ADS for a checkup.

The roof is not just shingles, it's a system including drip edge flashing, ice and snow protection and underlayment. A well performing roof will provide you the best protection and comfort.

Windows:

Windows are the weak link in the energy chain, sacrificing energy loss to be able to see outside. Even though energy loss is not easy to identify, some evidence is very easy to see.

Water or condensation on the window or glass. Cold air leaking will cause humid or moist air to condense on the glass. If ice has formed, as with older homes and windows, then you are losing money and comfort through your windows.

Can't open or close windows completely. Usually a result of old or swollen windows, also a sign that your windows should be unpdated to get the maximum amount of energy savings and function. Give ADS a call for a review.
